Many apologies if you have already received this and thank you for your patience

Dear Colleagues

Earlier this year we sought your support with regard to signing the Manifesto for Integrated Action on Gender in Research and Innovation.  So far nearly 4200 of you have added your signature and as a result we have been able to persuade the European Parliament to host the http://www.gender-summit.eu/ 2nd European Gender Summit on 29-30 November in Brussels.

You can see the programme and speakers’ details on http://www.gender-summit.eu   Please, also find attached a flyer outlining the aims of the event.  This is an unprecedented opportunity to place gender equality and gender research dimension in science on cross-European political agenda.

The European Gender Summit is supported by a number of MEPs, including Britta Thomsen, Teresa Riera Madurell, Marita Ulvskog, Joanna Senyszyn, Antigoni Papadopoulou and Kent Johansson. Based on the success of the first summit and the Manifesto for Integrated Action on the Gender Dimension in http://www.gender-summit.eu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=27 8&Itemid=42  Research and Innovation, the Summit will bring together 400 participants and 30 top-level policy makers, science leaders and innovation stakeholders to present and discuss the latest evidence, to align science and policy agendas and to identify the best ways for integrating the gender dimension in research and innovation.

Speakers
http://www.gender-summit.eu/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layo ut=blog&id=21&Itemid=9  include: Commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn and Deputy Director-General Dr Anneli Pauli (DG Research & Innovation), Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission Prof Anne Glover, Pro Rector Prof Curt Rice (University of Tromsø), Vice Rector Prof Simone Buitendijk (LERU – League of European Research Universities), Head of Research Prof Dr Thomas Illig (Helmholtz Centre Munich), Director of Integrative Activities Dr Wanda Ward (NSF – United States National Science Foundation), and Head of Quality Assurance and Programme Development Dr Ulrike Eickhoff (DFG – German Research Foundation).

We are most grateful for your participation in the consultation process.  We hope very much that we may see you at the 2012 Summit, which as in the previous year will be used as a vehicle for advancing the dialogue, see the plans for three Cafe Scientifique.  We very much hope that you will take part in these discussions, there will be more details communicated on this very soon.

Registration for the Summit is already open and offers an excellent ‘early bird’ rate.  In the mean time, we would be most obliged if you could encourage colleagues in your networks to add their name to the list of the current Manifesto signatories and visit the Summit website, http://www.gender-summit.eu.

With best wishes and
kindest regards
